2022 Cabernet Sauvignon

2022 Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes
With attractive shadings of sage leaves, blueberries and black cherries, this is a perfumed, medium to full-bodied wine that has ample cassis and black raspberry-like fruit, some spice, incense, and chocolaty oak aromatics, terrific overall balance, a ripe, layered, supple mouthfeel, and velvety tannins.

“The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate boasts attractive shadings of sage leaves, blueberries and black cherries. It’s medium to full-bodied, with a lovely creaminess on the mid-palate and a silky smooth long finish. Classic Seavey stuff—maybe a bit forward—but delicious and priced reasonably for the quality..”

“The classic 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon is all varietal that spent 19 months in 55% new barrels. Its deep ruby/plum hue is followed by a perfumed, medium to full-bodied wine that has ample cassis and black raspberry-like fruit, some spice, incense, and chocolaty oak aromatics, terrific overall balance, a ripe, layered, supple mouthfeel, and velvety tannins. While I suspect won’t be the longest-lived vintage of this cuvée, this gorgeous 2022 will certainly offer incredible pleasure over the coming 10-12 years, if not longer..”
Vineyard Notes
Seavey’s 32nd vintage of single-vineyard estate Cabernet Sauvignon comes exclusively from grapes grown on our steep hillside blocks, which we have now been farming for over forty years. The 2022 growing season followed two years of drought and scant winter rains, so the vines started the season early and with very little natural moisture for growth. Late in the season there were also two weeks of consistently high temperatures. The Cabernet grapes were harvested in September and October.
Production Notes
Following classic Bordeaux methods, we separately harvest and vinify each vineyard block. In the cool of the early morning, grapes from our 2021 harvest were promptly de-stemmed, and the uncrushed berries were gently transferred into fermentation tanks to carefully manage the tannins and resulting wine texture. Following fermentation, the wine was aged in French oak barrels (65% new) for 20 months before bottling in June 2024.
