The 2008 vintage was the 19th bottling of our Seavey Cabernet Sauvignon. It was hand-crafted from 100% Estate fruit, as it has been since our maiden vintage of 1990. Even before applying our pruning and cluster thinning practices, which have been called "extremely aggressive" and "savage" by some, the vineyard's crop was significantly smaller than in previous years. We attribute this, in part, to spring frost and a heat spike in July, which caused our fruit to be smaller in size. Warm temperatures followed through the rest of the growing season providing us with a dense, concentrated yet fully maturated crop. The result was an dense and complex wine which holds great cellaring potential, while being accessible to those palates that enjoy a young wine's structure.
Upon entering your glass, the dark violet, blackened ruby and indigo hues begin to reveal the concentration and depth of character cloaked within each bottle. Cedar, blackberry compote, graphite, dark cocoa, anise, cassis and red rose petals unveil themselves with each swirl of your glass. The firm and tactile tannins provide an underlying support worthy of 25+ years of cellaring.
Enjoy this wine throughout a leisurely meal and experience its full offering as it unfolds in your glass and unveils itself. The long finish delivers the ever present dark fruits and will beckon food back to your palate for a second round.

"One of the strongest wines of the vintage, the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon is a worthy rival to Seavey’s gorgeous 2007. A blend of 90.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9.5% Petit Verdot, it was cropped very low and, sadly, the production is a tiny 475 cases (30-40% less than normal). The wine’s dense opaque purple color is followed by notes of volcanic ash, burning embers, camphor, blackberries, cassis and cedar. The wine reveals terrific fruit on the attack, a full-bodied mid-palate and a multilayered textural mouthfeel. Dense, rich and pure with noticeable but sweet tannins, this big, formidably endowed Cabernet Sauvignon will age gracefully for 20-25 years.
One of my favorite wineries, Bill Seavey’s dry farmed vineyards are tucked back on the hillsides
of Conn Valley east of the Meadowood Resort. Philippe Melka has been the consultant here for
many years and recognizes the challenges of these dry farmed sites. Extraction, richness and
power are never an issue, but taming the tannins is, and Melka has generally done a very fine
job in doing so. The introduction of a second wine, Caravina, has only added to the prestige and
quality of the top wine, the Cabernet Sauvignon. "
