"One of the strongest wines of the vintage, the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon is a worthy rival to Seavey’s gorgeous 2007. A blend of 90.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9.5% Petit Verdot, it was cropped very low and, sadly, the production is a tiny 475 cases (30-40% less than normal). The wine’s dense opaque purple color is followed by notes of volcanic ash, burning embers, camphor, blackberries, cassis and cedar. The wine reveals terrific fruit on the attack, a full-bodied mid-palate and a multilayered textural mouthfeel. Dense, rich and pure with noticeable but sweet tannins, this big, formidably endowed Cabernet Sauvignon will age gracefully for 20-25 years."

The 2008 Caravina Cabernet Sauvignon is our tenth vintage of second Cabernet. The nose and mouth abound with the dark fruits of blackberry, currant, blueberry and pomegranate with violets, creosote and cocoa presenting themselves in layers. Described by some of our friends as the best Merlot they have ever tasted, the triumphant 2008 is our fifteenth Merlot vintage. The wine is particularly dark, rich, and complex. The nose is enticed by violets, blackberries, blueberries, bramble, a weightless floral perfume and a touch of French oak. Once in the mouth the palate is presented with tobacco, cocoa covered truffles, pomegranate, boysenberry and ripe chewy tannin which provide a supportive structure for its wide flavor profile. The 2009 growing season warm and mild, but didn’t see high temperatures until late in the growing season, which gave the chardonnay opportunity to fully develop before being finished off by a heat spike in September. This resulted in a 2009 chardonnay that is particularly well-balanced, complex and crisp. The wine was made from 100% chardonnay grapes grown in the coolest parts of our vineyard just adjacent to Conn Creek. Enjoy 2011 – 2016. Three barrels produced.
