The growing season in 2011 began with cool temperatures and provided our two acres of Chardonnay with an extended period in which to develop complexity. Our Chardonnay blocks reside at the lowest elevation on our Estate by the ever-flowing Conn Creek, surrounded by trees on three sides. The resulting environment encourages a crisp Chardonnay with a wide flavor profile representative of the soil’s minerality and cool location.
The mouthwatering crispness of our 2011 Chardonnay is evident upon first examination. A solid structure of acidity and minerality awakens and cleans the palate. Aromas of pear, Meyer lemon, tropical fruit and the naked essence of baking spices awaken your olfactories. Upon entry to your palate, guava, Meyer lemon, Asian pear, green and Gala apple, ginger and brûlée, toasted pine nuts, pineapple inflections and lime all appear in waves. The finish is extended with lemon blossom, lively minerals and stone fruit. This wine went through less than 10% ML and was aged gently in light toast French oak barrels, so as to protect and showcase its Chablisienne style.
We recommend that you serve this Chardonnay slightly chilled to allow the diverse flavor profile to reveal itself. It will pair beautifully with scallops, fowl, delicately seasoned halibut, and of course our winery favorite - Monterey Abalone.
