The 2010 growing season was particularly kind to our hillside vineyard, which lays upon the southern and western facing hills of our Estate. The Cabernet Sauvignon blocks soaked up the sun in this temperate growing season, encouraging fruit to develop particularly dark characteristics. Our Caravina vineyard blocks are distinct from those that go into our Seavey Cabernet because they present specific flavor profile complexities. We have crafted the Caravina Cabernet since 1999, making the 2010 Caravina our 13th release.
While this wine is in its infancy, it delivers complexities of bright red fruit on the entry, followed by blackberry, blueberry, leather, rose petals, dried violets, currant, cross-fit strength fruits and layered dark cocoa. Savory baking spices of allspice, clove, cardamom, incense, graphite and French roast continue through the palate with support from a firm, yet approachable, tannin structure. A patient approach to this wine will be rewarded as the aromatics unveil themselves in your glass and on your palate during a lengthy and complex 80-second finish. This is not a wine to rush through but rather to savor.
“This is an unusually complex second wine loaded with class and personality. I can’t think of too many wines that deliver this much sheer character…”
92+pt. Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate
“…perhaps the best second wine in all of Napa Valley…”
