Wine Details:
100% ESTATE GROWN, PRODUCED AND BOTTLED - NAPA VALLEY AVA
"Seavey's Merlots are softer and more plush than the muscular, concentrated Cabernets. The 1995 Merlot, which is more closed than the 1994, with less concentration, offers a dark ruby/purple color, a sweet nose of black cherries, earth, and a whiff of smoke and chocolate. This medium-bodied, moderately tannic wine requires 1-2 years of bottle age. I do not see it ever offering quite the level of richness and intensity of the 1994, but certainly the raw materials are present." - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
Seavey Vineyard’s second estate produced Merlot, the 1995, was made from Merlot grapes grown on a gradually sloping East-facing block near the top of the vineyard. In 1995, that block yielded 2.5 tons of grapes per acre.
The grapes were harvested in September 1995. Following primary and malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged for twenty months in French oak barrels before bottling on June 1997.
