100% ESTATE GROWN, PRODUCED AND BOTTLED - NAPA VALLEY AVA

Seavey's Merlots are softer and more plush than the muscular, concentrated Cabernets. The 1994 Merlot (350 cases) is aged in 35%-45% new oak casks. The opaque purple color is followed by a wine with an impressively rich nose of black currants and spice. Still young, this ripe, rich, sweet, medium to full-bodied 100% Merlot should last longer than I suggested in my review last year. It now appears it will evolve effortlessly for another 7-8 years, and hold at that plateau for 5-6 years. Drink now through 2011." - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Seavey Vineyard’s first estate produced Merlot, the 1994, was made from Merlot grapes grown on a gradually sloping East-facing block near the top of the vineyard.  In 1994, that block yielded three tons of grapes per acre.

The grapes were harvested on September 19, 1994 at 25 degrees Brix.  Following primary and malolactic fermentation, the wine was aged for twenty months in French oak barrels before bottling on June 19, 1996.

The 1994 Merlot has deep dark ruby color, and a sweet black cherry nose nicely complemented by toast.  It is soft, ripe and round with excellent concentration.

Production was limited to 330 cases.

Wine Spectator listed this wine in the Top-Scoring Merlots & Blends from around the world.

Inside Wine- June/July 1997  Score 97
Spicy, new oak bouquet with cassis and mint highlights.  Loads of ripe, black cherry, bramble and spice flavors matched by lively acids and melting tanning in a jammy mouth-feel.  Rich, well stuffed finish with cassis and cedar notes.
