100% ESTATE GROWN, PRODUCED AND BOTTLED - NAPA VALLEY AVA
"Tightly wound and well-structured, with cherry, cedar and loam aromas followed by red currant, spice and roasted herb flavors that finish with firm, rustic tannins. Best from 2010 through 2015. - Wine Spectator
Seavey Vineyard’s twelfth estate-produced Merlot, the 2005, was made from 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot grapes grown at several different elevations of the vineyard. The grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness of sugar and tannins and with concentrated fruit flavors.
Winemaking style followed classic Bordeaux methods. Following fermentation, the wine was aged in French oak barrels (40% new oak) for 18 months before bottling in May 2007.
The lush nose of ripe blackberries with hints of cedar, clove and dark chocolate gives way to an exceedingly long and rich finish. The wine's opulence is a signature of the classic 2005 vintage. To our core Merlot blocks we added Cabernet Sauvignon (20%) and Petit Verdot (5%) from the very top of our vineyard, a portion we call “Masochist Hill” because of its extreme slope. This addition augments the mountain character of the wine and contributes complex spice notes and sufficient tannin to see this wine through years of happy aging.
