100% ESTATE GROWN, PRODUCED AND BOTTLED - NAPA VALLEY AVA

“The 2002 Caravina exhibits more concentration than the 2001. This 2002 reveals sweet tannin along with big, full throttle, dense, black currant, loamy soil, chocolate and vanilla flavors.  Full-bodied, rich and impressive, this is no ordinary second wine.  Anticipated maturity up to 2019.”  Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

In this, our fourth year of offering the Caravina Cabernet, we feel the wine has found a distinctive style and following.  Lighter and fruitier in its youth, it has no limits to the foods it can be paired with.  Caravina means dear vine.  The name references our attachment both to all that our vineyard soil produces with great effort, and to our efforts to hand craft the resulting wines with great care. Hand crafting the wine assures the respect the bottled wine so justly deserves.

The 2002 Caravina Cabernet is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot.  The grapes came from our vines planted in several different locations of the south-facing hillside vineyard. Produced using traditional Bordeaux methods, the wine was aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, utilizing a combination of new and used to enhance stylistic fruit characteristics.
