William Seavey, a native Californian, was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Coronado. He went East to Princeton and Harvard Law School, when he met his wife, Mary, who was at Radcliffe. They lived in Coronado, CA and Geneva, Switzerland before moving to the Bay Area in 1968.
In 1979, they bought the present Seavey Vineyard from an old family friend. It had been a vineyard in the 1870's although in the 1970's it was a cattle ranch.
While William continued his San Francisco law practice, he and the family set about to restore the property and replant the early vineyard. The 4 Seavey sons spent high school and college vacations working at the vineyard, and the Seavey daughter and her 2 daughters came out from Boston to help from time to time.
Mary died in 2008. Bill still lives on the property, and his 5 children come to help whenever they can.
