In 1999, we decided to introduce an estate-grown, produced and bottled second-label Cabernet Sauvignon. We named this wine "Caravina," which means "Dear Vineyard" in Italian. Robert Parker has described our Caravina Cabernet as "...perhaps the best second wine in all of Napa Valley."

The 2009 Caravina is the 11th release of our second Cabernet Sauvignon. We are particularly pleased with this vintage of Caravina as it perfectly honors our intent to provide an accessible, yet very cellarable, Cabernet Sauvignon. Enjoy 2012 - 2027.
“The 2009 impresses for its depth, power and overall sense of harmony.” 92pt. Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate, Dec. 2011
“…perhaps the best second wine in all of Napa Valley…” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, Dec. 2008
The 2008 Caravina Cabernet Sauvignon is our tenth vintage of second Cabernet. The nose and mouth abound with the dark fruits of blackberry, currant, blueberry and pomegranate with violets, creosote and cocoa presenting themselves in layers. The complexities in its flavor profile continue to unveil themselves as you swirl this well-balanced and dark violet-hued wine in your glass. Enjoy 2011 - 2026.

Readers looking for value in Napa Valley reds need look no further than Seavey's 2007 Caravina. Last year I wrote that it was the finest second wine they had yet made, and now that it's in bottle, I can reiterate - it is a sensational effort. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged 19 months in French oak casks, this 525-case cuvee is a sleeper of the vintage. Rating: 94. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, Dec 2008.
"The 2006 Caravina (95.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4.5% Petit Verdot) is also surprisingly soft for a wine from this vintage, with melted tannins and lots of scorched earth, blackberry, and cassis notes. With full body and a silky suppleness, it should drink well for a decade as well....The Seavey Caravina Cabernet is perhaps the best second label wine in Napa…keep in mind I have Seaveys going back to 1990 in my cellar.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, Dec 2008.
"Gorgeous fudge/chocolate notes intermixed with blackberry and cassis, sweet silky tannins, and a long finish with no hard edges make for a delicious wine already showing complexity and best drunk over the next 10 years. The Seavey Caravina Cabernet is perhaps the best second label wine in Napa…keep in mind I have Seaveys going back to 1990 in my cellar. Rating: 92.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, Dec 2008.
"The 2004 Caravina is an up-front, fragrant effort displaying notes of cedar, black currants, white chocolate, coffee, and spice box. Supple-textured with gorgeous levels of fruit, medium body, and a silky finish, it should drink well for 12 years. It is typical of the open-knit, precocious 2004 vintage. Seavey is a top-flight source for long-lived Cabs. Rating: 91." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
"This beautiful offering exhibits notes of sweet Chinese black tea intermixed with hints of white chocolate, black currants, and dried herbs. Elegant and finesse-styled, it offers outstanding richness, a big, scorched earth, Graves-like note intermixed with black currants, plums, chocolate, and earth. The stylish, charming, seductive should drink well up to 2021. Rating: 91." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
“The 2002 Caravina exhibits more concentration than the 2001. This 2002 reveals sweet tannin along with big, full throttle, dense, black currant, loamy soil, chocolate and vanilla flavors. Full-bodied, rich and impressive, this is no ordinary second wine. Anticipated maturity up to 2019.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
"The 2001 Caravina reveals some rustic, hard tannin in the finish, but there is a beautiful bouquet of black fruits intermixed with tobacco leaf, loamy soil, and roasted meats. Medium-bodied and ruggedly tannic, it is capable of lasting for a decade. There is a lot going on here." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
"The 2000 Caravina (800 cases of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon) has more sweetness and plump fruit than the 1999. This elegant, refined, and delicious medium to full-bodied Cabernet should be consumed during its first 10-12 years of life." Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
