“This is an unusually complex second wine loaded with class and personality. I can’t think of too many wines that deliver this much sheer character…” 92+pt. Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate
Readers looking for value in Napa Valley reds need look no further than Seavey's 2007 Caravina. Last year I wrote that it was the finest second wine they had yet made, and now that it's in bottle, I can reiterate - it is a sensational effort. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged 19 months in French oak casks, this 525-case cuvee is a sleeper of the vintage. Rating: 94. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, Dec 2008.
"The 2006 Caravina (95.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 4.5% Petit Verdot) is also surprisingly soft for a wine from this vintage, with melted tannins and lots of scorched earth, blackberry, and cassis notes. With full body and a silky suppleness, it should drink well for a decade as well....The Seavey Caravina Cabernet is perhaps the best second label wine in Napa…keep in mind I have Seaveys going back to 1990 in my cellar.” Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, Dec 2008.
"Gorgeous fudge/chocolate notes intermixed with blackberry and cassis, sweet silky tannins, and a long finish with no hard edges make for a delicious wine already showing complexity and best drunk over the next 10 years. The Seavey Caravina Cabernet is perhaps the best second label wine in Napa…keep in mind I have Seaveys going back to 1990 in my cellar." Rating: 92. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, Dec 2008.
"This beautiful offering exhibits notes of sweet Chinese black tea intermixed with hints of white chocolate, black currants, and dried herbs. Elegant and finesse-styled, it offers outstanding richness, a big, scorched earth, Graves-like note intermixed with black currants, plums, chocolate, and earth. The stylish, charming, seductive should drink well up to 2021." Rating: 91. Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
