September, 2012
It is with great enthusiasm that I offer you the 2009 Seavey Cabernet (95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot). This is the 20th consecutive release of our Cabernet and we should like to celebrate this important milestone with you!
I turned eighty-two last month which isn’t a particularly courageous act or special numeric milestone, but it marked entry to a vineyard season that offers its own enjoyment, that I would like to share with you.
Production in 2009 was lower than usual, with only 630 cases of Seavey Cabernet produced. The growing season was warm, without significant heat spikes or cold spells, and the moderate weather continued well into fall. This gave our fruit an unrushed opportunity to mature a broad and deep flavor profile with powerful aromatics, supportive structure and graphite minerality consistent with our vineyard’s soils.
To commemorate our 20th vintage, we have created a few 20-year vertical boxed sets of Seavey Cabernet (1990-2009). If you should like to enjoy a historic perspective of our wine, or lead your tasting group through an experience reserved for only a few, let us know your desire for a boxed set soon due to the very limited inventory of our older vintages.
As the 2012 growing season comes to fruition, the vineyard has never looked better. Preparations for next year’s harvest will begin when we pick the last grape this fall. Seavey is a 100% Estate producer; and investments in our vineyard continue as we strive to fulfill its potential. I hope you will visit to see why we so cherish our hillside Estate.
With many thanks for your continuing friendship and support. We look forward to your next visit.
William A. Seavey, Proprietor
